Getting Started with StatsGuy
This guide walks you through everything you need to do before entering your first play — from account creation to roster setup.
1. Create your account
Go to /register and fill in your name, email, and a password. You also choose a slug — a short identifier for your account (e.g., westside-warriors). Your slug must be 3–50 lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
All new accounts start on a 14-day free trial of the Pro plan. No credit card is required.
2. Create a league
After logging in, navigate to Dashboard → Leagues → New League. Give your league a name and choose a rules set:
- NCAA — College rules
- High School (NFHS) — Standard high school rules
- Pro — NFL-style rules
- CFL — Canadian Football League
- Arena — Arena Football
- Indoor / Semi-Pro — Indoor league variants
The rules set controls conventions like the number of quarters, overtime rules, and certain stat recording nuances.
3. Create a season
Under your league, create a season. Enter the year (e.g., 2025) and a display name (e.g., 2025 Regular Season). You can have multiple seasons per league — useful if you want to track stats year over year.
4. Add your teams
Navigate to Teams → New Team. You'll need to provide:
- Full name — e.g., Westside Warriors
- Short name — e.g., Warriors
- Abbreviation — 2-5 characters, e.g., WSW
- City, mascot, conference, division — optional but recommended for reports
- Colors — hex values for display purposes
You can add as many teams as your subscription allows (unlimited on Pro).
5. Build your roster
For each team, go to the team detail page and click Add Player. Enter:
- First name, last name
- Jersey number
- Position (QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, K, P, LS, etc.)
- Year class (Fr, So, Jr, Sr, Grad) — optional
- Height, weight, hometown — optional
Players are associated with a specific team + season combination. If a player transfers or plays for multiple teams, add them to each team separately.
6. Schedule a game
Go to Games → New Game and select the home team, away team, date, time, and location. You can also set the stadium name, weather conditions, attendance, and broadcast info. Click Save and the game will appear in your schedule with status Scheduled.
7. Start entering plays
Open a game and click Enter Play-by-Play. The play entry interface will walk you through each play. See the Play Entry Guide for full details.
